(Chapter 8)

True Love Will Obey

The Bible tells us that those who love God will obey Him.

"And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments....He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked" 1 John 2:3, 6.

"For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous" 1 John 5:3.

"And this is love, that we walk after his com-mandments..." 2 John 6

It is love for God because of what He has done to save us that will compel us to obey Him. In fact, in Revelation we are told that those who will enter Heaven will be ones who have obeyed God's law.

"Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus" Revelation 14:12.

"Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city" Revelation 22:14.

In Isaiah, God specifically says that we will still be observing the Sabbath of the fourth commandment in Heaven.

"And it shall come to pass, that...from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD" Isaiah 66:23.

NOTE:

The Sabbath is a sign of God's creative power, as seen in the institution of the Sabbath at the time of Creation. It is also a sign of His redemptive power as seen by His careful completion of the sacrificial aspect of saving man before the Sabbath hours began, and His resuming the mediatorial aspect of redeeming man soon after His resurrection on Sunday. Finally, the Sabbath is a sign of God's re-creative power as seen by the continuance of Sabbath observance in Heaven and the New Earth. There, as in the Garden of Eden, we will talk face to face with God as we spend those hallowed hours sitting at His feet, perhaps under the tree of life. Here He will reveal to us the plan of salvation, and how He worked specifically to save you and me individually.
